Sometimes the simplest recipes are the ones that transform how you feel. This detox cleansing tea became my morning ritual two years ago when I was struggling with afternoon energy crashes. The combination of fresh ginger, bright lemon, golden turmeric, and honey creates a warm, spicy blend that wakes up your metabolism and makes your body feel lighter.
What I love most is that gentle warmth you feel about 30 minutes after drinking it—not in a dramatic detox-diet way, but in that subtle “my body is thanking me” kind of way. I make this at least four times a week, and it’s become my secret weapon for staying energized and hydrated.

This isn’t just another wellness trend—it’s a genuinely delicious, warming tea that supports your body’s natural detoxification processes. The ginger and turmeric work together to reduce inflammation, while the lemon provides a boost of vitamin C and helps with digestion. I drink this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, and it sets the tone for the entire day.

Fresh ingredients for homemade detox cleansing tea – ginger, turmeric, lemon, honey, and warming spices
Everything you need to make this energizing wellness drink: fresh ginger root for digestion, golden turmeric for anti-inflammatory benefits, bright lemon for vitamin C, raw honey for natural sweetness, and optional cinnamon and cayenne for an extra metabolic boost.
- 2 cups filtered water
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, peeled and grated
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric (or 1 tablespoon fresh turmeric, grated)
- 1 lemon, juiced (about 2-3 tablespoons)
- 1 tablespoon raw honey or to taste
- ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper or to taste (optional, for extra kick)
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, bring the filtered water to a gentle boil over medium-high heat. While you’re waiting, prepare your fresh ginger by peeling and grating it—the fresher the ginger, the more potent and flavorful your tea will be.
- Once the water is boiling, reduce heat to low and add the grated ginger, turmeric, and cinnamon stick (if using). Let this simmer gently for about 8-10 minutes. Your kitchen will start smelling absolutely amazing—that warm, spicy aroma is one of my favorite parts of making this tea.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool for about 2-3 minutes. This step is important because adding lemon and honey to boiling water can reduce their beneficial properties. We want to preserve all those good enzymes and vitamins!
- Strain the tea through a fine-mesh strainer into your favorite mugs. Add the fresh lemon juice and stir in the honey while the tea is still warm—this helps the honey dissolve completely. If you’re feeling adventurous (like I usually am), add a tiny pinch of cayenne pepper for an extra metabolic boost.
- Give it a quick taste and adjust the sweetness or spice level to your preference. Some days I want it sweeter, other days I prefer it more zingy. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if you have them, and enjoy while it’s still warm.
From Ava’s Kitchen
I’ve been making this detox tea for years, and here’s what I’ve learned: consistency is key. Drinking this 3-4 times a week makes a noticeable difference in how you feel. I also love experimenting with the spice levels—some mornings I go heavy on the cayenne when I need an extra energy boost, and other times I skip it entirely for a gentler start to the day.
